Intro:
How
Jesus responded to the outsiders – and how we should too!
The
Dog: Syrophonician Woman (v.24-30)
-
Seclusion v.24
Jesus
needed his own personal space & tried to get it from time to time
It
is ok if we find ourselves with that same need – Sabbath Day
He
rarely got it due to the multitudes that followed him
We
fail to get it because of (fill in the blank)
-
Spirit (evil) v.25-26
These
unclean spirits are no respecter of persons – cause so many
problems
seems
almost impossible to continue regular life
This
woman probably does not know much about Jesus
she
had heard about Him & acted on that knowledge
-
Syrian Phoenicia (a gentile woman) v.26-30
A
Greek woman – women were regarded very highly in Greek society
She
finds herself being one of the lowest of the low in Jewish sight
Even
Jesus did not want to help her... – He has been sent to the
children of Israel
He
does help her because of her humble faith and witty response!

The
Decapolis: deaf & mute man (v.31-37)
-
Sea of Galilee (went passed it) v.31
Decapolis
– predominately gentile region
chances
are pretty good that this man is a gentile
Jesus healed a demon possessed man here and told him to proclaim the good news - Mark 5:18-20
-
Speech & Sound difficulties v.32
there
were not many things that could be done to help him
Yet
Jesus heals him & the people marveled
-
Strange Healing → speak plainly v.33-37
heals
him privately v. 33
fingers
in his ears, spitting, and touching his tongue... what's the point?
How
else do you communicate to a someone unable to hear or talk?
The
point was that the healing miraculously came from Jesus → God!
Conclusion: What's the point?
The "Dog" - Jesus helps even the "outsiders"
The Decapolis - Jesus also has power over physical handicaps
